What is Medicaid?

A Federal Program administered by the States, providing Health Care coverage to the impoverished, disabled, pregnant women, and elderly adults (65+ yrs). Medicaid pays 100% of the costs of nursing home or home care, including cost of care, room, meals, and all medical supplies.

Medicare vs. Medicaid

All Seniors at age 65 qualify for Medicare, paying their share of healthcare costs with deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. In contrast, about 20% of Medicare beneficiaries also qualify for Medicaid. It pays almost 100% of the healthcare expenses.

Qualifying for Medicaid

Elderly Medicaid (called non-MAGI) Adults must satisfy income and other resources limitations. Importantly, the care needs for Activities of Daily Living (referred to as ADLs) have to satisfy certain thresholds. ADLs are ability to daily dress, walk, feed, bathe, toilet, etcetera by themselves.
